MAINE: Maine HHRC Center Offers Summer Seminar

The Holocaust and Human Rights Center of Maine is offering a summer seminar series for teachers at the Michael Klahr Center of the University of Maine, Augusta.  The seminar series topic is “Teaching the Malaga island Story in the Classroom.”  Centralmaine.com reports on the story and points out that “Malaga Island was an interracial Maine island community destroyed by order of Maine Gov. Frederick Plaisted issued in December 1911.”  According to Shenna Bellows, executive director of the Holocaust and Human Rights Center, “Teacher training is core to our mission of promoting universal respect for human rights through education.”
