NIGERIA: Human Rights Training for Police

A two day human rights training program was recently organized by the Nigerian police force together with Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) an NGO.   Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Training and Development, Mr. Sani Mohammed, a speaker at the conference is quoted as saying, “the fundamental duties of a police officer include serving the community, safeguarding lives and property, protecting the innocent, keeping peace and ensuring that the rights of all to liberty, equality and justice is respected.”  He introduced an enhanced human rights teaching syllabi together with a human rights training manual for use by the Nigerian police force.
