SOUTH DAKOTA: Educators Bring Human Rights to the Classroom

A pair of high school teachers have been honored by their community for their efforts to bring human rights education to their classrooms.   The Youth Ally Award is awarded by the Brookings, South Dakota, Human Rights Commission.  The award recognizes an adult who has inspired local youth to become involved in human rights activities and initiatives, either locally or abroad.  Dan Berg has served as the volunteer faculty advisor for the Brookings High School Human Rights Club since its inception in 2015.  Gayle Klinker, another teacher, is honored for her integration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest in her Freshman and Jumior English classes.
