UNITED KINGDOM: College to Teach Human Rights/Language to Immigrants

Hackney Community College (HCC) has initiated a plan to teach Human Rights along with language to immigrants.  The program, ‘Human Rights in Practice’, is run by the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation (IKWRO), and receives program resources from the European Commission Daphne project.  According to an article in Hackney Citizen, “the project hopes to tackle issues such as female genital mutilation (FGM), honour crimes and forced marriage by teaching students about human rights alongside their language courses.”
