19 Feb INDIA: Sikkim to Include Human Rights Education in Curriculum
The UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) and the Human Resource Development Department (HRDD) of the Indian state of Sikkim have entered into an agreement to imbed concepts of Human Rights, including Peace, Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship in school textbooks. The HRDD Chief Secretary, GP Upadhaya, is quoted as saying, “He also said that education for peace, education for sustainable development (ESD), Global Citizenship Education (GCED), Global Learning, Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR), Human Rights Education etc. have existed for a while and their significance is huge in the education sector.”
