Human Rights Education Discussed at Conference in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines

As part of his visit to the Philippines, Dr. Darren Hawkins, Professor of Political Science at Brigham Young University (BYU) and Director of its Global Politics Lab, served as plenary speaker at the First International Research Conference and Second Higalaay Multidisciplinary Research Festival, hosted by City College of Cagayan de Oro in August at the City Tourism Hall, Cagayan de Oro City.

Accompanied by Geneva Office for Human Rights Education (GO-HRE) Country Directors Melanie Shatzer and Chris Fletcher, Dr. Hawkins discussed human rights education and the importance of ensuring access to this right for all Filipinos, regardless of differences in culture, tradition, or social standing. He also highlighted the COLEGA curriculum and its potential to benefit every learner in schools where it will be taught. The session concluded with Dr. Hawkins addressing questions from researchers, education professionals, and students in attendance.
