MoU on Human Rights Education inked in Nigeria

NIGERIA and SWEDEN:  The Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MU) with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) of Sweden in Abuja, Nigeria.  Vanguard reports that Justice Jerome Traore, President of the Court indicates that the purpose of the agreement is to enhance modalities to ensure effective implementation of commitments made by member states on strengthening human rights and the rule of law in the sub-region.  Senior Programme Officer of the  RWI, Mr Chris Muthuri, is quoted as saying, “both parties would collaborate in the areas of trainings, research and studies on human rights promotion and protection and exchange programmes.”  And that [the agreement] would promote human rights education in the sub region.”
