SEYCHELLES: Human Rights Education Advocacy Established in Seychelles
A local branch of Droits Humains Ocean Indien’ (DIS-MOI) has been established in the Seychelles. DIS-MOI is a regional civil society group advocating for human rights among island nations in the Indian Ocean. Initial events of the new organization include a seminar on human rights education training, and a three week online training co-sponsored by the Australian government. At the launching ceremony, Lindley Couronne, the founder of the initiative, said, “It is important to promote human rights and citizenship education among all groups … . This will ensure the existence of a true tradition where human rights are respected and protected, and by extension a world where citizens enjoy fundamental rights as they are enshrined in the African Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”
