16 Jan THE GAMBIA: High School Organizes Human Rights Club
Students of Gambia Senior High School have organized a Human Rights club. As reported by Fatou Dem in The Point the organization was implemented by Bekanyang Kafo, a registered NGO in The Gambia, in partnership with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. Bekanyang’s executive director, Nfamara Jawneh, is quoted as saying, “At Bekanyang, we believe that there cannot be any sustainable development and peace without respect for human rights.” He went on to say, “participatory approach in Human Rights Education (HRE) promotes and values the sharing of personal knowledge and experience on human rights and encourages critical reflection on individual beliefs and values.”
