12 Oct THE GAMBIA: Group Sponsors Youth Human Rights Camp
“Making Human Rights A Reality for All” was the theme of a five day youth camp sponsored by Beakanyang. According to Digital Journal the purpose of the camp was “to teach young people their rights and that these rights can add value to their lives.” A spokesperson for the group was quoted as saying, “We work to create an inclusive society where all young people will be engaged, informed and inspired to take the challenge of actively participating in national development.” Digital Journal goes on to explain that “Beakanyang’s focus is to build leadership by promoting human rights and orienting young people to take responsibility for creating the world in which these rights can be realized by all. … Beakanyang partners with Youth for Human Rights International whose materials form the backbone of their human rights education initiative.” Youth for Human Rights is a Church of Scientology affiliate.
