Lusaka, Zambia: Peace and conflict resolution introduced into education curriculum

A member of the Zambian Parliament wants to promote harmony and unity by introducing peace and conflict resolution in the education curriculum.

“Mwansa Mbulakulima, a member of Parliament (MP) Mwansa Mbulakulima (PF) has called for the introduction of peace and conflict resolution in the education curriculum.
“Mr Mbulakulima said there is also need to introduce religious education subjects to promote morality among citizens.
“He said this in Parliament on Tuesday when he contributed to the debate on the report of the Committee on Legal Affairs, Governance, Human Rights, Gender Matters and Child Affairs on the address by President Lungu.
“’The presidential speech touched mainly on morality, ethics, and conflict resolution’.
“’To promote peace, we must introduce religious programmes [subject] in schools although this may be a controversial issue’.
“’We also need to introduce education in schools that focuses on promoting peace and unity in the nation,’ Mr Mbulakulima said.
“He said citizens should always strive to promote peace and good morals at school, work place and society for the country to develop further.”
