04 Jul UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: Colin Kaepernick recognised for his “Know Your Rights Camp” at the National Education Association’s Human and Civil Rights Awards
Colin Kaepernick, responsible for sparking the #TakeAKnee campaign, was awarded the National Education Association’s President’s Award, considered the organisation’s “highest honour”. The Know Your Rights Camp is free to children, intended to help them know what their rights are and how to properly interact with law enforcement. NEA President Lily Eskelsen García said “The human and civil rights champions we honour tonight are the epitome of the fierce urgency of now that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., spoke about in his ‘I have a Dream speech…Through their deeds and actions, they have demonstrated remarkable courage and conviction to stand up for racial and social justice”.
